Excellent recreational opportunities for hikers as well as mountain bikers (restricted to fire roads) and equestrians are available at the state park.
Visitors can expect to see 36 miles of trails through open grassland, live oaks, and spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean. The park also features numerous geologic formations such as earthquake faults, marine fossils, volcanic intrusions, and a wide variety of sedimentary formations.
Dogs are not allowed on the park trails, fire roads, or in the back country. However, there are specific locations within the park that allow dogs. Visitors can refer to the provided PDF file for more information on dog-friendly trails.
Visitors can access the park from Pacific Coast Highway by traveling north on Topanga Canyon Boulevard, passing the post office at the center of town, and then turning right on Entrada Road. They should keep to the left at every opportunity until they reach the park's main parking lot, which is about one mile away.
Some key attractions along the trails at the state park include Musch Trail leading to Musch Trail Camp, Eagle Junction with the Eagle Spring loop trail offering panoramic views, and the Backbone Trail winding through the Santa Monica Mountains from east to west. Visitors can also explore Rustic Canyon from the Backbone Trail.
